My family has been renting our apartment for over 70 years. We’re supposed to pay rent this month, but the landlord says we should pay the new developer instead. The problem is, we haven’t agreed to this developer yet! The landlord gave us all a photocopy of a letter, but it doesn’t say anything about the developer taking rent. Who should I pay, and how? My rent is due on January 1st and I always pay six months in advance. One tenant even sent the rent by registered post, but the landlord didn’t give them a receipt. I’ve always paid on time, so I’m worried about this whole situation. What should I do?

You should continue paying your rent to your existing landlord until a new lease agreement with the developer is signed. The landlord is obligated to provide you with a receipt for rent payments. You should also consult a lawyer to understand your rights and options regarding this situation.
