You have the right to claim the remaining deposit as you were unable to occupy the property due to a valid reason and informed the landlord. You can file a civil suit in a court of competent jurisdiction seeking the return of the remaining deposit. The process can take several months to a year depending on the court’s workload. The legal costs would vary based on the lawyer’s fees and court filing fees.
