Under Indian law, you are likely liable to return Mr. X’s deposit as you were responsible for finding a replacement for your room. You are not obligated to resolve conflicts between your replacement and the other tenants; however, you may be held responsible if the conflict arises from a violation of the lease agreement or any other legal issues. It’s best to consult with a legal professional to understand your specific obligations and potential liabilities.
