Starting my first job as an intern at a small company, I was earning ₹12,000 a month. I landed a great opportunity that required me to join within a week. I informed my HR, who suggested talking to my mentor, but he refused due to fear of our boss. With no other option, I left the job without notice. They’ve now sent a letter demanding ₹70,000 as a penalty and a legal notice asking for ₹1,50,000 or threatening legal action. The internship agreement mentioned a 15-day notice period, but the HR had verbally said I could leave by paying my salary. I left my last month’s salary with the company and resigned via email. Should I be worried?

You may face legal action. While leaving without notice can lead to penalties, the verbal agreement with HR and the lack of a formal written contract may be helpful in your defense. You should consult a lawyer to understand your rights and options.
