My medical tech company, which offers online consultations, recently had layoffs due to changes and financial losses. A few colleagues and I were let go, and we’re now in our notice period, which was extended to March 31st. Should we be getting a formal termination letter mentioning the reason for layoff? We haven’t received any written notification yet, even though our boss informed us about the layoffs on February 15th.

While Indian law doesn’t mandate a formal termination letter, it is good practice for your employer to provide you with one. This letter should state the reason for termination, which in this case is likely due to redundancy related to financial losses. As your notice period has been extended, it is advisable to inquire about the termination letter with your employer.
