My friend works on a government contract and applied for a new government job. He marked “no” for the “in-service” question on the application since his current office wouldn’t give him a No Objection Certificate (NOC). If he gets selected, he plans to resign from his current job and join the new one. Could there be any issues with this? He doesn’t want to lose any benefits from his current job.

Your friend’s approach could lead to issues. If his current employer discovers he was working on a government contract without an NOC, he may face disciplinary action, including termination. Moreover, his new employer might consider his application dishonest and withdraw the offer.
