I’ve been working as a District Manager for a pharmaceutical company in Mumbai for the past two years. When I resigned, I gave the required notice period. However, they’re now saying they’ll deduct three months of my salary, even though my contract specifies two. I haven’t signed any additional documents regarding this. I’m willing to pay the two months stipulated in my contract, but is their demand for three months justified? Can I take this matter to the labour court?

Under Indian law, your employer cannot unilaterally increase the notice period beyond what’s specified in your contract. As you have fulfilled the contractual notice period, you are not obligated to pay for an additional month. You can certainly approach the labour court if they continue to deduct your salary unjustly.
