While your intention may have been innocent, the gift was perceived as sexually suggestive and the company’s action aligns with India’s Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The company is legally within its rights to terminate your employment and refuse a standard relieving letter as the incident constitutes misconduct.
