I started working as an accountant two months ago. Last month, they didn’t pay my full salary, saying I had to finish all my tasks first. But they kept piling on work and wouldn’t let me complete anything. They only gave me ₹8,000 instead of the promised ₹20,000. Now they’re creating trouble again. Four other colleagues have already quit because of the same issues. I also left the company, and now they’ve sent me a legal notice accusing me of stealing their cheque books and bill books. This is completely false! They’re threatening to file a criminal complaint if I don’t return these things. What should I do?

Your employer’s actions are illegal. They cannot withhold your wages without valid reason and their accusation of theft is baseless. You should consult a lawyer to respond to the legal notice and file a complaint against your former employer for wage theft and defamation. You should also gather evidence of the unpaid wages and excessive workload to strengthen your case.
