I signed a contract with a company in India and gave them my original documents. The agreement was for an 8-month job. The next day, before starting, I heard the company wasn’t good. So, I made up an excuse about a family member being sick and left. Now, they’re demanding two months’ salary as the contract states. What legal action could they take if I don’t pay?

The company can file a civil lawsuit against you for breach of contract and claim the two months’ salary. However, you might have a defense arguing that the company’s poor reputation constitutes a breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, potentially allowing you to terminate the contract.
