As a lecturer in Computer Applications at a polytechnic college in Madhya Pradesh, I was appointed in 2008 under the 2004 recruitment rules. My salary was fixed at ₹15,600 – ₹39,100 with an Academic Grade Pay (AGP) of ₹6,000 during the sixth pay revision.
Recently, my principal issued an order reducing my AGP to ₹5,400, citing a clarification from the AICTE’s January 2016 Gazette (referring to their 2010 guidelines). This change supposedly applies to science and humanities subjects, but my branch, Computer Applications, is a technical degree. There’s no other postgraduate degree available in Computer Applications.
The principal’s order reducing your AGP appears to be incorrect. AICTE guidelines apply to technical branches, and Computer Applications, being a technical degree, is unlikely to be affected by their 2010 guidelines, particularly if your appointment predates them. You should consult with your union or a legal professional to challenge the reduction and seek reinstatement of your original AGP.
