As a bank manager in India, I submitted my resignation and received a notification from HR about outstanding dues, leave balances, and liabilities. They also instructed my branch to collect a bond amount of Rs. 1.20 lakh. A woman has filed a police complaint alleging that items were stolen from her husband’s locker at our branch. While her husband, a customer, hasn’t filed any complaint with us or the police, I’ve paid the bond amount, cleared my dues, and settled my liabilities. However, on my last day, I was told over the phone that my release is contingent on the closure of this case. What can I do in this situation?

You have a right to be released on your last day as per your resignation and settlement of dues. The bank cannot hold your release hostage over a case where you are not directly involved and have no legal liability. You should consult a lawyer and pursue legal action to ensure your immediate release.
