A government employee in India with a Grade Pay of ₹4800 wants to apply for a lower post with a Grade Pay of ₹4600. They’ve been in service for more than 3 years and want to avail the 5-year age relaxation allowed for government employees appearing in SSC exams. However, they’re unsure if they need an NOC to switch to the lower post and if their past service will be considered for age relaxation if they apply without it. Is it possible to apply for the lower post without NOC and still benefit from age relaxation? Can they request a change in their Current Appointment Type (CAT) if the NOC is denied?

In India, applying for a lower post without an NOC from the current employer is generally not advisable. The employee may not be eligible for age relaxation as past service may not be considered without the NOC. Changing the CAT without NOC is unlikely to be successful and could have legal consequences.
