I’m an Indian freelancer and finished 7 projects for a client in Finland. He paid me, but a month later, he filed a chargeback and the payment was reversed. Freelancer.com support says he disputed the payment with his bank. It seems he used someone else’s credit card to make a fraudulent payment, and it was later reversed. I deleted the websites I built for him since I wasn’t paid. Now he’s threatening legal action if I don’t rebuild the sites. I have all the payment reversals, chat logs, and Freelancer support screenshots as proof. Can this client file a case against me? If so, where would he file it – in India or Finland? What kind of crime could I be accused of? I only deleted my work because I wasn’t paid. Please advise.

Based on the information you provided, it’s unlikely the client can successfully sue you in India or Finland. You have evidence of non-payment and the fraudulent nature of the transaction, which supports your action of removing the websites. The client could potentially file a case in Finland, but it would be difficult for him to prove you committed any crime, especially with your evidence.
