My husband worked in the UAE in 2006, and his employer took out a credit card in his name. He was assured that he’d pay it off on time. He came back to India for our wedding in 2007, on a month-long leave. While he was here, his employer called to say his job was lost due to the recession. A few months later, we started getting calls from the bank in the Gulf about the unpaid dues. We sorted it out with his former employer in Dubai, and the payment was made. But years later, they’re harassing me with calls at my office, using abusive language.

Your husband’s former employer’s actions are illegal and you have the right to seek legal redress. You can file a police complaint and a civil suit for harassment and defamation. It is also advisable to contact the bank in the Gulf to resolve the issue amicably and request them to stop contacting you.
