My dad, who’s from Lithuania, is planning to move to the US to care for my grandpa. He’s applying for a green card through the ‘Sons and daughters’ category. Once he gets it, he’ll need to live in the US for 5 years to become a citizen. I’m wondering if I can apply for a green card through the same category while my dad is still on that 5-year path to citizenship, or do I have to wait until he becomes a US citizen?

You can apply for a green card through the “Sons and daughters” category while your father is still on the path to citizenship. You would need to demonstrate that you are the biological or adopted child of a US citizen, and meet other eligibility requirements. However, you may face processing delays due to your father’s ongoing citizenship process.
