My wife and I had a small disagreement two years into our marriage. Her parents took her away, saying they wouldn’t let her stay with me. She said she knew how to leave without me. I didn’t contact them. She called after three months, but I didn’t answer. They then filed a false police complaint claiming I had beaten her. We went to the station, but they tried to scare us into filing an FIR. We didn’t give in. Three months later, they filed another complaint claiming my wife was harassed for her salary. We went to mediation, but she won’t admit her role or promise not to repeat this behavior. My parents are urging me to divorce her due to the lack of trust in her and her family. Is there any legal recourse to handle this situation? I feel like I’m ruining her life.

In India, you can file a case for restitution of conjugal rights, compelling your wife to return to your home. You can also file a case against her and her family for harassment and false police complaints. However, if she refuses to return and is adamant about the divorce, you can file for divorce based on her unreasonable behavior and her family’s interference.
