My sister got married in 2006 but hasn’t had children yet. We’ve suggested adopting a child with her husband, but he refuses. Can a woman adopt a child without her husband’s consent? Is the consent of both husband and wife required for adoption? If my sister adopts a child without her husband’s permission, will the child inherit any share in his property?

Under Indian law, the consent of both husband and wife is required for adoption. If a woman adopts a child without her husband’s consent, the adoption may be deemed invalid. The child will not inherit any share in the husband’s property in such a scenario.
