My husband serves in the Indian Air Force. After our wedding, my sister-in-law accused him of something terrible and demanded we leave her family’s home. We moved back to my mother’s, and he returned to his duty. We then found our own apartment, buying it together. However, he hasn’t paid a single EMI on the flat, nor has he sent any money for me and our child. He hasn’t even visited in almost a year and a half. When our daughter was born, he rejected her, wanting a son instead. We even went through court counselling, but he refused to listen.

Based on Indian laws, your husband’s behavior constitutes desertion and abandonment, and you have grounds to seek maintenance for yourself and your daughter, including a share of the property you bought together. You can file a case under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act and the Hindu Marriage Act for appropriate legal action.
