I live overseas and my family in India (parents, grandmother, brother, his wife, and their daughter) rely on my grandfather’s HUF for their living expenses. I recently bought a house and asked my father for a loan, but he declined. If I seek a partition of my grandfather’s HUF, will I still be entitled to a share of my father’s HUF in the future? Or can he bequeath his entire share to my older brother?

Under Indian law, you have a right to a share in your grandfather’s HUF property. However, partitioning the HUF will not affect your future entitlement to your father’s HUF share. Your father can bequeath his entire share to your brother, but this would be subject to challenge by you as a legal heir under the Hindu Succession Act.
