My passport application is stuck because of a police verification issue. I was at work when the verification officer visited my home. My elderly parents were there and told them I might be at work or at my wife’s mother’s house (our child is 9 months old). The officer left a note asking me to visit the police station. I went there with all my documents two days later, but they said I don’t live at my own house and stay at my in-laws’ place. I explained I was at work during the visit and provided proof, but the verification department sent an adverse report and a show cause notice. What should I do?

You can appeal against the adverse report by submitting a formal representation with supporting documents like your work ID, salary slips, and proof of residence at your own house. You should also provide an explanation for the officer’s inability to find you at home. The police department has to review your appeal and consider your explanation.
