My name is Rakesh, and I was born in September 1992. But when I got my birth certificate from the district civil hospital, it showed my name as “Jai” and my birth date as December 1991. I’m worried because I need to fix this quickly. I can’t apply for a passport or continue my studies without the correct documents. How can I get this sorted out as soon as possible?

You need to apply for a correction of your birth certificate. This can be done by filing a petition in the court having jurisdiction over the place where your birth was registered. The court will order the registrar to rectify the errors in the birth certificate after verifying your identity and the actual date of birth.
