My friend’s brother-in-law filed a case against us (392) in June 2008. We’ve been attending court hearings in Kurla, Mumbai since the chargesheet in late 2009. For the past three hearings, my friend and I have been unable to attend due to work commitments (I’m in Kolkata). The last hearing was on May 10th, 2014, but the court was closed because it was a Saturday. The other person went again today, but forgot the case number, so they’ve been asked to return tomorrow. I’m worried about a warrant being issued. What should we do to prevent this?

You should immediately contact your lawyer and inform them about your absence from the last few hearings. They can explain the situation to the court and request a postponement. Also, ensure you obtain the case number and keep it readily available for future hearings. This will help avoid any potential warrant issuance.
