My brother’s been living separately for seven years now, ever since he got married. He’s become quite addicted to betting, especially on cricket matches, and has borrowed a significant sum from our father, around 25-30 lakhs. Unfortunately, Dad’s finances are strained now and he can’t keep supporting him. He’s considering disowning him. What would be the legal steps involved?

Under Indian law, a father has the right to disinherit a child. However, disowning your brother would require a formal declaration, preferably through a will or a registered deed. This declaration needs to be clear and unambiguous, specifying the reasons for disinheritance.
