I changed my name officially in the Gazette of India back in 2014, and updated my Aadhaar and PAN cards in 2016. Now, I want to go back to my original name. I hear I need to publish a new Gazette notification to revert the name change and that process could take around three months. I haven’t updated my name with my office yet, only my Aadhaar and PAN. What if my office finds out about the name change and my old name is still on my tax records? Could I face any legal issues? What’s the best way to go about changing my name back without causing any problems at work?

You might face issues at work as your tax records and office records don’t match. While publishing a new Gazette notification for name reversal is ideal, it’s not mandatory for internal company records. Inform your office about the name change and provide them with a copy of your Aadhaar and PAN showing your original name. This should be sufficient for your company’s internal purposes. You can also consider publishing a name change notification in a local newspaper for wider dissemination.
