Hello, I’ve been renting out my apartment in Hyderabad since May 2011 and have been receiving rent regularly. Some folks have advised me to formalize things with a rental agreement. I’ve only increased the rent once, by 15%.
Now, I’m curious:
1. Can I still sign a rental agreement with my tenant, acting as if it was in place since 2011?
2. What paperwork do I need to prepare for this? I’m not very familiar with this process.
Appreciate your guidance.
Regards,

While you can still sign a rental agreement, it won’t retroactively validate the rental arrangement since 2011. The agreement should state the current rent and terms. You’ll need the tenant’s ID proof, your ID proof, and a witness’s signature. It’s advisable to consult a lawyer to draft a comprehensive agreement.
