My wife and I, an NRI couple, had an arranged marriage last year in India. We have a three-month-old baby. She has been staying with her parents for the past six months. We only lived together for two months, and she was with my family for just 2.5 months. I never demanded dowry, but now her parents are making false allegations against me. She has stopped responding to my calls, texts, and emails for two months. My parents tried to reach out to her, but she refused to come back without explanation. Recently, I was cut off from my family property and relationships, including my wife and baby. What legal options do I have, and what are the worst-case scenarios? Can they summon me abroad, especially if they don’t have my address? Could they harass my parents? Will this affect my NRI status?
You can file a case for restitution of conjugal rights and custody of your child. Your wife’s family cannot summon you abroad without your address. They could harass your parents, but you can file a police complaint against them. Your NRI status is not affected by family disputes.
