My wedding was in April 2014, and within a year, my husband became violent. He even tried to hurt me seriously. I went to the police station in Mysore, but to protect my family, I filed a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR). He promised the officers he would change and asked me to stay with my parents in Bangalore for a week. But just two days later, he sent me divorce papers and filed a dowry harassment case. Even in family counselling, he refused to work on our marriage. He also has all my jewelry. I’m lost and don’t know what to do. I can’t afford a lawyer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can approach the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) for free legal aid. They can connect you with a lawyer who can assist with filing a domestic violence case against your husband, seeking protection orders, and retrieving your jewelry. You can also file a complaint with the National Commission for Women (NCW) to address the dowry harassment case.
