My husband’s family is pressuring him to leave me because they believe my parents didn’t give enough dowry. He often threatens divorce and even resorts to physical abuse. I don’t want a divorce, especially with our 9-month-old daughter. My own mother has been covering all our expenses since we married, as my husband is currently jobless. He goes back to his hometown whenever we fight, instead of looking for work. His mother and sisters want him to divorce me, as they disapprove of our love marriage and my Punjabi background. They wanted him to marry a Gujarati girl.
