My husband has been living in the US for 15 years, and we have two children living in India. My in-laws and he never allowed me to join him there. He visits once a year or every other year, sometimes sending money. I haven’t been in a relationship for 10 years, focusing on our children. Recently, he seems only interested in them. I’ve repeatedly asked for a divorce, but he ignores me. I just learned that he remarried in the US, claiming to be divorced on the marriage certificate. I’m a working, educated woman who has always taken care of our children and myself. He and I want our children to pursue higher education abroad – is there any financial help available for us?

Based on your situation, you can file for divorce in India citing your husband’s desertion and bigamy. You can also seek maintenance from him for yourself and the children, including the cost of their education. The courts might consider your financial situation and his earning capacity in the US while determining maintenance.
