My husband filed for divorce last month claiming I’m having an affair. He says he receives calls from other men at night and suspects I had an affair even before we married in July 2013. We were only together for a couple of months before I moved back to my mom’s for my engineering studies. Now he wants a divorce based on these calls. I admit I received calls from friends during exams, but they were just friends. Will the court grant a divorce based solely on phone calls?

In India, mere phone calls from other men are not sufficient grounds for divorce. The court will require substantial evidence of an extramarital affair, not just suspicions. Your husband’s claims about your relationship before marriage are also unlikely to be considered unless there is concrete proof of infidelity during that time.
