My husband and I married in 2012. He constantly accuses me of wrongdoing, forbids me from speaking to anyone outside the family, and insists I work but hand over my entire salary. He even restricts contact with my own parents. He pretends to be a loving husband in public but is cruel and abusive when we are alone. His mother and sister encourage his behavior. I’m at my wit’s end. He threatens to keep our child if I leave. What legal steps can I take to separate and get custody of my child? Please advise.

You can file a complaint with the police for domestic violence and seek a protection order against your husband. You can also file for divorce on grounds of cruelty and seek custody of your child. The court will consider the best interests of the child when making custody decisions. You should consult a lawyer to understand your legal rights and options in this situation.
