My husband and I have been married for 12 years and have two children. My sister-in-law married my brother but left him after only three months to live with her colleague in Hyderabad. She then left him for good and has been living with us for the past year. My in-laws also moved in with us last year. Since then, they’ve been constantly pressuring me to pay half of all the bills or leave the house. My sister-in-law even physically assaulted me and stopped me from cooking in the kitchen. My husband is unemployed, so he claims he can’t do anything to help, saying “earn your own money and eat your own food.” They’re clearly taking revenge for my sister-in-law’s divorce.

You’re facing an extremely difficult situation. Your in-laws and sister-in-law are attempting to exploit you financially and emotionally. You can file a police complaint regarding the assault and seek legal advice regarding their pressure, as well as possible eviction if they are refusing to contribute financially while living in your home.
