My husband and I, both Hindus, are going through a divorce by mutual consent. I need to extend the six-month period because I’m not ready yet. I admitted to infidelity, but it stemmed from feeling unvalued and constantly criticized by him. How can I extend the divorce process so I can convince him to give us another chance? We have a seven-year-old son, and I want to save our family.

In India, extending the six-month period for mutual consent divorce is not possible. You can file a petition to withdraw the divorce petition before the decree is granted. However, you cannot legally force your husband to reconcile or give you another chance. Focus on addressing the underlying issues in your marriage through counseling and communication to improve your relationship.
