My friend’s brother is going through a tough divorce, and my friend is trying to help him. However, his in-laws are threatening legal action if he doesn’t stop supporting his brother. They’re determined to make this difficult for him. It’s been going on for a while, and things are escalating. Could his brother take legal action against them for the way they’ve been acting?

Under Indian law, a person’s family members can’t be legally penalized for supporting someone going through a divorce, even if it inconveniences the other party. However, if the in-laws are making false accusations or resorting to harassment, your friend’s brother could potentially pursue legal action for defamation or harassment.
