My friend converted to Islam and married a Muslim man. After 2-3 years, he disappeared, leaving her with their daughter. They haven’t spoken in 13 years, not even by phone. He never helped raise the child financially. My friend needs a divorce. Should she file a case in court or consider it already over?

Under Indian law, your friend’s marriage is valid and can be dissolved through a divorce. She can file for divorce on grounds of desertion, which has been proven by his absence and lack of communication for 13 years. She can also seek financial support for herself and her daughter.
