My brother, who is deaf and mute, married a village girl in January 2013. She left for her home in March and never returned. My brother, who used to live in Baroda, has since moved to Noida. The girl, unaware of this, went to Baroda and is now creating a commotion, demanding to be accepted back into the family. We don’t want her back because we discovered she had extramarital affairs while living at her home, even though she was still married to my brother. She refuses to divorce unless we pay her 1 crore. My brother is unable to work due to his disability, a fact she was aware of before the marriage. Now, she’s demanding money from his father, a government official. What can we do? How can we get a divorce?

Your brother can file for divorce on grounds of desertion and adultery. Since your brother is disabled and she is aware of his condition, a court might consider her demand for 1 crore unreasonable.
