My aunt divorced her husband fifteen years ago and has been living with her father since then. She received a property worth ₹1.2 crore as a gift, which earns her ₹10,000 in rent every month. Her ex-husband works in a bank and earns around ₹15-16 lakhs per year. He remarried and has two children, aged 10 and 8. My aunt and her ex-husband have two adult children who are both graduates and working. Considering all this, what kind of monthly maintenance or permanent alimony can my aunt claim from her ex-husband?

Under Indian law, your aunt can claim monthly maintenance from her ex-husband, considering his income and her financial status. The court will consider her age, health, and earning capacity, as well as her ex-husband’s income and his new family’s needs.
