If someone is ordered to pay maintenance but doesn’t, and ends up in jail for a while, will they still owe the maintenance, or what happens in such a situation?

Under Indian law, imprisonment for non-payment of maintenance does not extinguish the liability. The person will still owe the maintenance amount, even during their time in jail. The court may also issue further orders to ensure payment after their release.
