I married a woman on September 5th, 2016, but almost immediately after our wedding, she started acting strangely, almost like she might have a mental health issue. This was her second marriage, and I knew her first ended because her husband was in love with someone else and married her due to family pressure. However, now I’m not sure. Her behavior makes me think she might be struggling with schizophrenia. I paid for the entire wedding and we only lived together for a few days. I’m desperate to get a divorce. What are my options? We are both Hindu.

In India, under the Hindu Marriage Act, you can file for divorce on grounds of mental illness if it’s proven to be incurable and existed at the time of marriage. You’ll need to provide evidence of her condition and its impact on the marriage. Since you were married for a short period, the court may consider granting a divorce on grounds of irretrievable breakdown, but this requires a mutual agreement.
