Four years ago, I married with my parents’ blessings. We have two beautiful children, a boy and a girl. Sadly, my husband’s behavior changed after our second child was born. He began to mistreat me, and my mother-in-law constantly creates problems between us. This abuse has happened repeatedly, not just once or twice. On a Friday night in August, around 11:30 pm, I was forced to leave and return to my mother’s home after my husband physically assaulted me and even broke my mangalsutra. He is now demanding a divorce. I’m deeply worried about my children’s future. I need expert guidance on what steps to take next and how to protect myself and my children. Please advise me on how to proceed.

You have grounds for seeking legal protection and separation from your husband due to domestic violence and cruelty. File a complaint with the police and seek a Domestic Violence Protection Order under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. Consult a lawyer to understand your legal options for divorce and child custody.
