I got a late-night call from an unknown number in December 2016. The caller claimed to be a police officer and said there was a complaint against my number. He threatened me and asked me to meet him 8 kilometers away from where I was. I’m certain he wasn’t a real police officer. Now, I want to file a complaint against him. Is there a time limit for filing such complaints? Are there any specific rules I need to know about? I’m also facing a false accusation in another case that might take some time to clear. Can I still file a complaint against this unknown caller after a few months?

There is no specific time limit for filing a complaint regarding harassment or impersonation under Indian law. However, it is recommended to file the complaint as soon as possible to gather evidence and strengthen your case. You can file a complaint with the local police station, specifying the details of the call and the threats made. You can also file a complaint with the Cybercrime cell, as the call was made through an unknown number.
