Our housing society, with around 650 families, is eagerly awaiting our new homes. However, the construction is taking time, and the management keeps raising costs without providing transparent details online. To address these concerns and understand the rising costs, 200 of us formed a WhatsApp group. Now, the Chairman has filed a defamation case against some of us, claiming we’re spreading false information. We’ve tried to get answers through emails, but haven’t received any response.

The Chairman’s defamation case may be difficult to sustain, as communication within a housing society is considered a legitimate exercise of free speech. While expressing concerns in a WhatsApp group may be a good way to foster transparency, it’s important to verify information before sharing it to avoid spreading misinformation.
