My sister passed away two years ago due to the abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband and his family. Back then, I was scared and gave a false statement claiming it was an accident because of their threats. Can I file a case against them now? What kind of evidence do I need? My sister’s landlords in Delhi are willing to testify that she was physically abused. I’m from Uttar Pradesh and live in a rented house in Noida.

You can file a case under Section 304B of the Indian Penal Code for dowry death, even if you gave a false statement earlier. You need to prove the abuse, your sister’s death due to it, and that the false statement was made under duress. The testimony from your sister’s landlords, along with other evidence like medical reports, can strengthen your case.
