Indian law does not recognize “promise to marry” as a ground for legal action. However, if your partner made false promises of marriage to induce you into a sexual relationship, you may have grounds for a criminal complaint under Section 376 (sexual assault) or Section 417 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.
