My neighbour was harassing me and threatening me with violence, so I filed a police complaint against him. He had a criminal history and was even in jail for a few months because of previous crimes. Even though I gave statements against him, I felt pressured and scared and ended up settling things out of court. Now, I’m worried the court might take action against me because my statements in court didn’t match the earlier ones. Could the court charge me with a crime?

Indian law allows for withdrawal of complaints, but a court may perceive inconsistency in your statements as a potential attempt to shield the accused. While unlikely to result in criminal charges, the court might scrutinize your reasons for withdrawing the complaint and the circumstances surrounding it.
