My marriage was in February 2014, and I have a two-year-old daughter. I recently discovered that my husband was already married and has a four-year-old daughter. He has now left me, taking my jewelry and everything else. I’m living on rent and have no job. I’ve hired a lawyer, but even after ten days and providing all documents, he hasn’t prepared any notices. He says it takes time. I’ve even paid him fees. Please help me, I’m desperate.

Your situation is complex as your marriage is bigamous and therefore void under Indian law. You are entitled to a share of your husband’s property and maintenance for yourself and your child. Contact the Bar Council of India or a legal aid organization to find a lawyer who can help you urgently.
