My girlfriend’s father is against our marriage because we come from different financial backgrounds. He threatened to tell the police I brainwashed his daughter if she seeks help from the women’s commission. I’m worried about getting caught in a legal mess. What are the chances of the police taking action against me, especially if my girlfriend supports me?

Under Indian law, threatening to report someone to the police based on false accusations is illegal. Additionally, parental interference in a marriage is not grounds for legal action unless proven to be coercive or harmful. If your girlfriend supports you and there’s no evidence of coercion, the police are unlikely to take action against you.
