My four Army friends and I were heading back to our hometown near Kolkata when a heated argument with a neighbour escalated into a brawl. Though I was just a bystander, I got caught in the chaos and ended up injured. A year has passed, but the case is still pending and the main accused, my friend, is free on bail. My other friends are silent, and the lawyer who was initially helping me has stopped paying the legal fees. I’m feeling helpless and alone. What should I do?

You should immediately contact a legal aid organization or lawyer for free legal aid. Since your friend is the main accused, it might be helpful to seek advice from the Army legal department about your options and next steps. You can also consider approaching a senior officer from your unit for guidance and support.
