I’ve been facing serious issues like cheating, extortion, assault, trespassing, harassment and blackmail. The local police wouldn’t file a complaint (FIR). Even the police commissioner refused. So, I’m thinking of filing a private complaint under sections 200/156(3) of CrPC with the Magistrate. But local lawyers charge a lot – ₹10,000 for juniors and ₹15,000 for seniors, which I can’t afford.
Can I, as a citizen, directly submit a private complaint to the Magistrate without hiring a lawyer? Or is it mandatory to have a lawyer when filing such a complaint? I’d really appreciate any guidance. Thanks!

You can submit a private complaint to the Magistrate under sections 200/156(3) of CrPC without a lawyer. While legal representation is advisable, it is not mandatory. You can draft the complaint yourself, clearly outlining the offences and evidence you have. However, it’s crucial to ensure the complaint is well-structured and legally sound.
